Investing in Their Dreams

Living at the “Internato” (boarding school) of Quessua in East Angola is a group of over fifty young men in their teens and early twenties.  Most of these boys have come from farming families in other districts with very limited resources. Some of them are orphans. They have lived through their country’s recent civil war and have experienced things we probably cannot even imagine. Even now, their lives are not easy.  And yet, their faith is unwavering.

“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.”  1 John 5:4

Salvador, George, Tony, Gomez and Carlos have risen up as leaders among the boys.  They are hard workers and contribute to the needs of Quessua, a UMC center for education and religious study.  They regularly make personal sacrifices in order to lead, encourage and instruct the other boys at the boarding school. They teach Scripture and lead the boys’ choir. They are committed students and work faithfully at all that is put before them. They seek God with their whole lives.

“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12

They have dreams for their futures. They want to continue making a difference in the world for the glory of God. Salvador has heard a calling from God to be a pastor. George would like to become a doctor or a lawyer. Tony enjoys studying languages and would like to be a teacher. Carlos wants to continue pursuing the call of God on his life. Gomez dreams of becoming an architect.

“For the gifts and calling of God  are irrevocable.” Romans 11:29

Over the next year, there is a possibility that these five young men could begin studying at universities both in Africa and around the world.  It would truly be hard to find anyone more deserving of this opportunity than Salvador, George, Tony, Gomez and Carlos.  At the Reclaim Main Gathering this weekend, we will have the incredible privilege of giving financially to help make it possible for them to pursue higher education. Will you prayerfully consider what your part will be in investing in these young adults in East Angola?

You will be able to contribute to this cause via check or cash at the Reclaim Main Gathering. For those of you who will not be with us this weekend in Coral Gables, you can join us in spirit by donating online.
